Information About Park/Area:
Sue Sillman House -- This brick structure was built in the 1870s by Arthur Silliman, an early pioneer to the area, who came to Three Rivers in 1847. Near this site a Potawatomi Indian trail crossed the St. Joseph. The confluence of the St. Joseph, Portage and Rocky rivers at this site gave Three Rivers its name. Arthur Silliman deeded this property, named "Riversby" to his daughter Sue in 1914. Sue Silliman was the Three Rivers librarian and historian for forty-two years. During that time she also served on national, state, and local boards of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Before she died in 1945, she left to the people of the area her papers, the books she wrote including St. Joseph In Homespun, her home, and the memory of a life dedicated to the public service. Visit the Silliman House at 116 South Main in Three Rivers.
Carnegie Center for the Arts -- Carnegie Center for the Arts became a private, nonprofit corporation in 1982 after being located in the Three Rivers Library for several years. In April 2005 was the 25th anniversary of the art center. Annually the Three Rivers Carnegie is filled every November and December with fabric art from the River Country Quilters and members of the Carnegie Center for the Arts. There are several other interesting exhibits and a variety of concerts are also held at the center. Visit the Center at 107 North Main Street, Three Rivers, MI 49093.
