Information About Park/Area:

Wixom History -- Wixom was founded in the 1830's by Lewis Norton. Today, Norton Creek bares his name. Development of Wixom was started by Alonzo Sibley, who purchased 80 acres, built a home, cultivated and cleared the land. The town was named after Ahijah Wixom, who settled the northern portion of Wixom in 1832. The first school was built in 1854 and was used as a meeting place for Sunday services. Until 1871, Wixom was known as Sibley's Corners. Wixom was incorporated into a village in 1957. Today, the City of Wixom has become a major suburban area as well as a site for manufacturing.

Places to Visit in Wixom -- Wixom Civic Center Park in the heart of the downtown contains the City Offices, Police Department, Public Library, Parks and Recreation and the Community Center. The Gibson Historical Park hosts recreational opportunities while preserving a farmhouse that was build in 1872 and is considered a relic. Enjoy basketball, inline skating, softball, horseshoes, fitness trail, tot lot, and picnics at the Gilbert Willis park. The Sibley Square Park is a place for entertainment with a covered pavilion for live performances. Most Parks connect to the Wixom Trail System and are easily accessible by car, foot, bike, skate, etc.
