Established in 1859 Dalton Township is a very tight knit community, with some of the first settlers still having family ties throughout the Township. The Township is 36 square miles of which 2 miles includes the Village of Lakewood. The Townshi
p can be characterized as containing a variety of commercial developments along the M-120 corridor and Whitehall Road and single-family residential homes throughout the Township with large areas of undeveloped, forested land as well as several small lakes.

Living, Working and Recreation
The topography of Dalton Township varies from low lying marshy type areas to massive hilly oak forest, the majority of the Townships homes and businesses having their own private water and sewer supply, with only a small portion on the Southern section supplied with municipal water and sewer. The Township is currently served by two school districts Reeths Puffer and Whitehall public. The Township also has its own fire department with 1 full time chief and an average of 20 paid on call firefighters with an ISO rating of 6. The States number one tourist attraction Michigan Adventure Amusement Park is also located in Dalton Township. The Township also has a 25 acre community park located on Tyler Rd, a public bike trail, 240 acre Equestrian nature trail and several small parks located on several of our beautiful lakes.
Based on the 2010 census the Township has a population of 9,600.
