          Interesting Information About Evart

/files/CBP 2/Evart Depot 2.jpgEvart History -- Evart’s history starts in the early 1850’s. The city was named after Civil War veteran Perry Oliver Everts who, after his stint in the Union Army, purchased 80 acres where the town now stands. At the town’s organizational meeting in 1870, Everts’ name was misspelled and that misspelling was allowed to stand. Lumber baron Delos A. Blodgett officially platted the town in 1872, the same year it was officially organized as a village. Evart was a strategic point for sorting timber that was floated down the Muskegon. It was later organized as a city in 1930. An LDFA was started in 1990 that created a 30 year plan development plan that includes public safety investments in police and fire facilities, enhancing support for industrial and business development opportunities and constructions of recreational facilities among several others.

Situated on the Muskegon River, (which can be enjoyed from Riverside Park to the south of town), this picturesque community has maintained a balance of past and present, with a turn-of-the-century downtown look and a recently built high school and expanding industrial park. Evart is also located on the Pere Marquette Rails-To-Trails State Park, with over two miles paved within city limits. Of the many activities that stand tall in the minds of visitors, by far the best is the world-famous Dulcimer FunFest. This 4-day extravaganza, usually celebrated the 3rd weekend of July, features strictly non-electric stringed instruments.
