Interesting Information About Dowagiac

Dowagiac Community Information -- Dowagiac, named by its first inhabitants for its abundance, is today a community still meeting the needs of its residents. Nestled in the rolling hills of southwestern Michigan, surrounded by a multitude of inland lankes and bountiful farmland, the area carries the feel of a rural community, while enjoying close proximity to major metropolitan areas. The small town appeal of our downtown shopping district was revamped with the shopper in mind. Ample parking and wide sidewalks promote foot traffic for shopping or just strolling and visiting. Dowagiac is an historic community known for its thriving Victorian downtown and homes. Michigan Monthly Magazine named Dowagiac one of the "best downtowns in Michigan". As you visit the community you will enjoy the friendly small town atmosphere while enjoying a wide variety of shopping, services and entertainment. Surrounded by lakes, orchards and open space, Dowagiac is a wonderful place to enjoy all the four seasons have to offer. Dowagiac is only a thirty-minute drive to the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. In the winter the area also offers downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

Dowagiac Arts & Cultural Community -- The City is known for its arts and cultural community. The City is home of an active community theater as well as theater productions at Southwestern Michigan College. The Dogwood Fine Arts Festival attracts visitors from around the country. This festival brings in visiting artists from all disciplines including dance, music, art and literature. The festival is responsible for the public art pieces located around the City. The Downtown hosts a number of events during the year. The Beckwith Park Summer Concert Series, Christmas parade, ice sculpture competition, Dowagiac Fun Fest, and the Rod and Roll Classic Car Show are just a few of the many offerings. The Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce website Festivals and Events page provides details on these and many other wonderful activities.
