          Interesting Information About Allegan

Allegan Community Information -- Allegan, located on both sides of the Kalamazoo River, is on eof the most picturesque sites in the State. Allegan residents are proud of their historical heritage. Allegan was founded with a vision. When Elisha Ely settled on the bank of the Kalamazoo River in 1933, he quickly realized the potential for waterpower and transportation supplied by the river. Eastern backers, Samuel Hubbard, Charles Trowbridge, Pliny Cutler, and Edmund Monroe purchased land and formed "Boston Company". They envisioned Allegan as a manufacturing and shipping hub to rival Chicago.

Allegan Industry -- Allegan is a warm and friendly community ideally located for development. Allegan has a number of small town businesses. Allegan is expanding its industrial park. It has 90 acres, with lots still available, after the Perrigo Company, an Allegan based pharmaceutical company, put in its new $16 million distribution center. The facility is big enough to hold 11 football fields. The industrial park provides first-class building sites, varying in size, for a variety of industrial and business uses. It has full service city water and sewer access. Lots are available for $1. Allegan's Highland Park is a state-certified industrial park and meets the requirements of the State of Michigan. In addition, Highlands also offers easy access to major highways and interstate expressways, existing buildings and available lots for sale or lease, financial assistance and incentives and immediate access to a general utility airport and within 40 minutes of major regional airports in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.
