Interesting Information About Albion
The Garner House Museum -- Augustus P. Gardner (1817-1905), a wealthy hardware merchant built this Victorian style house in 1875. A three-story, thirteen-room mansion with a mansard roof, it was Gardner's home until his death in 1905. In 1966, after decades of neglect, the house was purchased by the Albion Historical Society. Restored, it houses a local museum. Five of the rooms are furnished as a nineteenth-century home and the remainder feature permanent and rotating exhibits. This house is among the last of its type in this area. It is located at 509 S. Superior St. in Albion.
Albion College -- Founded in 1835, Albion is a private, co-educational, liberal arts college, related to the United Methodist Church. Albion College was the first private college in Michigan to have a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Albion is ranked in the Top 100 National Liberal Arts Colleges, and Princeton Review's "The Best 361 Colleges". Albion’s strong academic programs are augmented by our unique Institutes and opportunities for undergraduate research. The Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (FURSCA) enables students to work on specialized projects with faculty as early as their first year on campus. Albion’s comprehensive liberal arts education is further bolstered by our six preprofessional Institutes, which set the College apart from many of our peer institutions.
