Michigan Multipliers 2009 Available Now
Montgomery Consulting has released Michigan Multipliers 2009 to the Michigan economic development community. As part of the continuing evolution of this popular tool, the data set used to create the 2009 edition includes both Private Sector Employment (from US Census, County Business Patterns) and State and Local Government Employment (from US Census, Census of Government). The addition of local government employment, helps paint a somewhat more accurate picture of the complete spin-off jobs potential resulting from net employment gains in local basic industries. The addition of state government employment in to the analysis, however, grows local base economies (and so reduces local jobs multipliers) in those counties in which major state facilities are located, including the Capitol, prisons and state universities.

MEDA Membership Service of the Month
July 2009 -- According to Stan Soloway, president and CEO of the Professional Services Council, "To get the most of your membership -- for yourself personally and to increase your company's visibility -- you must be an active participant. Being an active participant goes beyond attending meetings. You can have a huge impact on the association agenda by keeping the professional staff abreast of what your customers are saying, what changes you are seeing in your market, and how proposed legislation and policies would impact your business." [“Membership Has Its Benefits” Washington Technology (06/09/09)] MEDA currently has four active committees and two active taskforces in which members can join at any time.
